Going to Grumbel's department store. Need anything? Wow! I haven't seen a Grumble's catalog in years! Granddad kept one in the outhouse on top of the basket of corncobs. My, but we were happy when the new catalog came in. Oh, you read catalogs in the outhouse. Sigh Potty humor just isn't what it used to be.

I was going to ask how old was FrankâŠ.then I realized he said Grandpa. ⊠It was Grandpa who kept an outhouse. Grandpa probably had indoor plumbing put in between family visits. Then hid the âwater closetâ. Just for fun. but made up for it with churning ice cream and other treats

A really upscale outhouse would have two: one from Sears and one for Montgomery Ward.

That might work. If you built it on a hillside.

Corn cobs??

An upscale outhouse was a two holeâr. My folks had a single holeâr in the back of the barn (attached to the house)âŠ.better than having to go outside during the winter, but still a cold walk through the barn to get there.

OohâŠGrumbelâs? Crossover with Norm Feutiâs âRetailâ commencing?
gregcartoon Premium Member almost 10 years ago
I would like to point out that âGrumbelâsâ is a store in my friend Norm Feutiâs comic strip âRetailâ. Itâs not here on gocomics- as itâs with the âotherâ syndicate, but itâs a really well done comic strip. Everybody say âWOOOOOOâ for crazy cross-pollinating between syndicates!

Iâm (barely) under 50 yet, and I grew up with an outhouse. Of course we did have indoor plumbing, but then the septic tank had to be cleaned out once a year, and that cost money, and one outhouse hold would last 3-5 years.
The basic rule of thumb was, if the sun is up, and the tempâs above freezing, you better be using the outhouse!
Agent54 almost 10 years ago
@dzw3030That web site said not complete plumbing inside so it is confusing as to what qualifies. But I know in the county I live in there are still houses with functional outhouses grandfathered in under the law, so the local gov can not make them take them down. Despite what the local / neighboring housing HOA police think of it.

I think Frank would give anything to have the âGood olâ Daysâ back again!
Especially where potty humour is concerned.

Now thatâs not a nice thing to say about a real pretty building. All that lovely wood and stone work. hope they repair those bullet holes.
Hunter7 almost 10 years ago
I actually thought you were referencing something other than the actual building. I just figured to go in a different direction than your post. âŠ. after all â it is a lovely building despite the fact I still donât have my Peace Tower flag. (though it would have helped if I actually wrote in and asked for one.)
