Years ago I met a woman who was 1/2 German and 1/2 French. She lived in my apartment complex. We’d escape to the sauna once a wee and she’d tell me such interesting stories about living in Europe, then coming to the US. Wished we still wrote to each other.
I am but half German and half Slavic. The German having a smattering of Irish due to the presence of “mad Molly” McCarney and a few others. Molly was a local legend in her own little locality.
I’m German on my mother’s side, and she was violently anti-Catholic. She always made on wear orange on St. Patrick’s Day. One day a year I looked as if the undertaker had forgotten to close the lid. Now, I take great delight in celebrating the day.
