Rebuilt my engine in the living room . . . nicer than the cold, drafty garage.

Then there was my husband. Before we married, he shared an apartment with his dad. One weekend, when his dad was out of town, future hubby cleaned an engine block in the bathtub with a spray can of ether. After spraying it all over, he decided to take a break. He went to the kitchen for a cigarette…. and blew up the bathroom!

Seems that most folks do strange things from the stories being told thus far. If you would ask all of them they would tell you that it seemed like the right thing to do at that point in time !

I read “Click & Clack” in our local paper. Even though Tom passed away Ray still does the column. He actually addressed this a few months ago. Some idiot had used the family dishwasher for washing engine parts. The wife was NOT amused. He had hoped Ray would agree with him that there was nothing wrong with what he did. Ray basically could him out for being a doofus, explained there are chemicals used in parts of cars that can make humans sick when ingested, that the dishwasher in fact would now have residue from such chemicals since “Cascade” is made to combat FOOD & not transmission fluid, therefore he needed to replace the dishwasher in the house. If he felt he absolutely had to clean the parts he now had the dishwasher he’d messed up to use-if he could hook it up in the garage.

Johnsons makes an industrial grade floor stripper for their commercial wax which does clean anything, including peeling your skin off.

The real question here is: A) Is he trying to clean the engine, in which case he’s an idiot; or B) Is he trying to rev up the dishwasher, in which case he just might be a visionary?

…if your wife has ever asked you to take the transmission out of the bathtub so she could take a shower, you might be a redneck…

I used my oven to install new wheel bearings in my VW Bug’s front end. The safe way to do that is to degrease the bearing race then wash it in hot soapy water & rinse before heating it in the oven. There was no “oily” stench. Kid Sister was amused but double checked the oven before she’d use it.

I rebuilt a manual transmission from my old 1990 Nissan truck in my bedroom… with help from my father, at that!

Don’t give my husband any ideas! I’ve lost 4 or 5 turkey basters, pastry brushes and spatulas to his “projects!”
