I’m not entirely sure on this, but I think what’s happening here is that panels one and two are a different tree from panel four. Arlo just grabs a twig and bends it down as he’s walking by (in that way people do). Luddy sees this, and is excited by the prospect of using this wonderful skill to get birds. He charges off and finds a bird on a low twig, but can’t reach to pull it down.
When we set out on a walk around the neighborhood, our two cats would follow. As I recall, one would meow piteously sometimes, like, “THIS isn’t the normal state of things!” Another would walk with a harness.
We used to walk our Siamese cat on a harness and lead. We had to use a harness because she’d attack any dog she saw. Most were afraid of her. Those that weren’t soon learned to be.
Ok I’ll bite. Dogs are much nicer to have than cats. Spoken by a dog lover and a cat….well you know the rest. Sorry Jimmy, and I like your cartoons very much. The only one I read every day. I have to have my Arlo and Janis fix.
I like that funny fast-clicking noise cats make when they are watching a bird on the outside of the window. You can hear the kitty contemplating how delicious that bird would be.

Walking the cat is easy. Our tom sees the wife walking the dog, he usually comes dashing over and tags along.

I keep reminding my cats that they live with a big ol’ clumsy giant.

By the way Lagomorph = bunny, like feline = cat and canine = dog.
