Teacher: Today's subject is Washington.
Teacher: Hurricane Hattie, can you spell Washington for us?
Hurricane Hattie O'Hara: Which one - the city, the state or the president?

In my experience the Pres is spelled ‘Washington’, the state ‘WA’ and the city ‘DC’.

It depends on which class she is teaching. If Geography, it would be the state, if History, the president, and if it is Civics, the city.
