    Our dog has decided he is old enough to usurp the living room recliner. When we chased him out of that, he went upstairs and took over the TV room love seat. We finally let him have the recliner. Seniority does have it’s privileges.

    Grandfather clause originally applied to a law denying the vote to anyone whose grandfather was not permitted to vote in tyhat jurisdiction – aimed primarily at disenfranchising freed slaves, carpetbaggers, or anyone else other than the feudal masters. By extension, those with privilege before can continue the privilege while all others are denied. It had and has nothing to do with prohibited ex post facto laws.
