Actually squirrels don’t eat pine cones. They just tear them apart to get to the pine seeds (which are quite tasty, by the way).
Pine nuts are wonderful; pine cones, not so much.
The slug was using it as a mouthwash…
I’ve torn up pine cones looking for the nuts, never found one. Must have the wrong kind of pines.
