It’s not the same issue as a bikini, but… I remember how excited I was to finally get a pair of striped, hip-hugger bell-bottoms, around 1970. (You know, “real hippy” clothes.) I eagerly asked my father what he thought of the outfit. He just drew a breath, then said, “Well, I guess you look how you want to look.” A very diplomatic response, I think.
