Almost all male spiders have a good chance of being eaten by their intended mate. Before, after, whenever.
In some species the males work in teams to keep her confused enough that most of them don’t get eaten.
Some male spiders bribe the females with a present of a wrapped fly to avoid being eaten. It doesn’t always work, but sometimes it does.
