Transcript:
Phoebe: A-P-P-O-G-G-I-A-T-U-R-A. Appoggiatura.
Judge: Very nice, Phoebe.
Phoebe: Thank you.
Judge, Now spell the word you were given.
Phoebe: Hat. H-A-T. Hat.
noun, Music.1.a note of embellishment preceding another note and taking a portion of its time.
Which is kind of what Phoebe was doing in a lot of ways by spelling that instead of the simple word she was given. Only she wasn’t doing it with music.
Would you use the word in a sentence, please? Unfortunately this happens all too frequently in the spelling bee-instead of words frequently used/frequently misspelled they use words that are so obscure that you aren’t quite sure where they came from.
