    I can assure you that Northern Maine is not going to be on that list…..that’s why my wife and I retired here from NC. Reasonable cost of living,beautiful scenery, clean air, low crime……and we’re not tripping over one another. Another plus is that we’re 25 miles to the nearest traffic light! Okay…Winter is too long and we have snow…lots of it. But tornadoes, hurricanes,floods, and massive wild fires are rare.

    Anywhere in the square formed by Jacksonville and Montgomery and Nashville and Winston-Salem is a good place to retire. Decent weather, comparatively low-costs, mostly low-crime, mostly friendly-people. You have to be a Braves fan, however.
