Rick: Amniocentesis? You're worried about amniocentesis? Joanie: Of course I'm worried about it. Tomorrow I have to go in for an absolutely dreadful procedure, following which I stand a 1-in-50 chance of receiving terrible news. Meanwhile, I'm turning into this misshapen blimpo with persistent nausea, premature backache, violent mood swings... Rick: Hmm... sounds like you could use some cheering up! Joanie: ...and a husband who keeps trying to cheer me up. Rick: Hey, give me a chance. I've got some new hand shadows.

Joanie, how can you resist hand shadows?

It’s a scary procedure she’s facing. Not only can the procedure itself cause problems, but the results can also be problematic. Takes a brave soul to face up to that; it’s why a lot of folks just can’t. Had a cousin who had a ‘change of life’ baby that was born with serious birth defects. Her hub wanted her to have the procedure (and take steps if results were bad.)
She wouldn’t, so he left her…

Just leave me alone. I want to be grumpy, I want to be spiteful and I want to be left alone.

If men had to do the childbearing there would have been just Adam, Eve and Cain. That’s it, no more and I know because I am a guy. We guys really missed the bullet on this one. YEA! And now back to drinking beer, watching the Cubs game, sitting on the couch in my underwear and, occasionally, scratching my butt.

Joanie has been through this before. She must have hated it then, then the raising of the kids, so she walked out. She’s still throwing up barriers to motherhood. Not a good beggining for the Red Rascal.

I recall being chewed out for trying to cheer up.Disconcerting to learn women aren’t as rational as they claim.
