So Kiribati is sort of like (clockwise) Utah, Colorado, New Mexico, and Arizona, huh? How can a cleaners lose a judge’s trousers?!

The pants were accidently sent home with a different customer, but they were found, retrieved and offered to the judge, who refused to accept them. Also lets say that his lawsuit rather backfired.

No, Hemispheres. Northern, Southern, Eastern and Western. They overlap. I take it Kiribati sits on both the Prime Meridian (0° longitude) and the Equator (0° latitude).

Didn’t the cleaners go bankrupt? I think it was a small Mom and Pop outfit.

Yeah, the judge lost his case. Despite being threatened with disbarment and sanctioned $12000 for unnecessary litigation, he continued on, he insisted on taking his “case” higher and higher. He eventually reached the DC Court of Appeals, who refused his petition to have a nine-judge panel her it. His last option would have been the Supreme Court, but the 90 day limit passed without him petitioning.

As a result of this case, he lost his $100k a year position, after a panel decided not to appoint him to a ten year term as an Administrative Law Judge when his initial two year period was up. Apparently he lacked the “judicial temperament” required…

The Chungs eventually closed the shop, but kept their other one going. They didn’t need to sue to recover their costs, as fund-raisers more than covered what they owed.

I liked the blurb headline: “DC Judge Drops Pants from Suit.”

I agree; hemispheres of the earth means northern and southern halves.
