It’s going pretty smoothly, considering it’s a birthday party for a two-year-old girl, and the guest list is made up entirely of kids under the age of eight.
Of course Lizzie is going to be the one that looks a year older. Kids change so quickly, but mom probably feels ten years older in a year after taking care of the family.
Very funny! On the last panel, Elly asked Annie silly “Who looks a year older… the kid or me?” question. Sigh, we all are in the same boat when we turn our ages, we will eventually feel OLD!
That strip about Lizzie’s birthday party looked GRRRREEEAAAAT! :-)
10, 6 and 3 at the SAME party? I would NEVER do that. You can’t plan activities or theme for a 3 year old that would be entertaining for the 10…or vice-versa! I did ALL my kids’ parties, but they were all separate and every one had a different theme. I also did Cub Scouts for many years.
Pooooooooor Elly. It’s always pooooooooooor, poooooor, Elly. As if she had no choice in this life she finds herself so heavily burdened with.
It’s so annoying. It’s her daughter’s second birthday party, and she has so far shown no joy about it. Just the opposite as always. She smiled in panel 2, which must have taken a lot of effort if you consider all the martyr drama around it on both sides and in the strip where she’s planning celery and complaining to John.
I guess all that strenuous, (and “frugal”) peanut butter spreading plum tuckered her out!
Given how young Lizzie has looked in the last couple of strips (more like a crawling toddler than a 2-year-old), I’d say it’s Elly that looks a year older today! Throwing a birthday party with this many children under the age of about 6 would age just about anybody that quickly!!!

Elly, in my eyes, you are also sweet and beautiful. Except when you’re not. :-D
PS: I do not understand the I’m First mania that I see on posts.

A little later comes Lizzie’s sugar rush and hysterical screaming and you have to send everybody home.

I’ve always said that my kids get older, but I don’t (even though I feel it some days).

That’s a question I think that every parent has asked at their kids’ birthday parties.

take all the kids to a children’s park and let them run free, call them back when it’s time to cut the cake

I like referring to one’s child as “the kid” about as much as I like referring to one’s spouse as ”the wife”. In other words - not.

Everything is always all about her. Somehow, the children are having fun, even with the dull menu, to spite Elly.
