I think the award panel is biased.

When it comes to “Pearls,” I doubt there is a single person more important than the cartoonist. Certainly a well deserved tribute to himself.

The only award he’s going to get is the one he will step in, which is less of an award and more of a consequence of hanging around with a bunch of animals that don’t wear pants.

I’m betting this was originally drawn when Pastis one the Ruben for comic strip of the year. Fits the way he works. He does strips months in advance of when they actually run. Their timely when he draws them but not when they run

Poor goat, pig and rat. They can’t qualify for Person of the Year Award, even if they deserve it! Discriminated against just because they aren’t human. Oh, the shame of it all…

i forget the name of the movie. the writer has gotten an award & her editor is pleased. she says, “you always say—awards are like hemorrhoids, sooner or later every -—hole gets one.”not that cartoon boy is. just expressing the value of the award.i was once employee of the month. sic transit gloria
