He’s basically my parenting role model

Summer reading list would be easier if they would assign books that are at least slightly interesting. But no, all schools want to have kids read are horrible boring things and “literary classics” (sometimes those two overlap). No wonder many kids these days hate to read. They never learned that stories can be fun.

I guess that its a fine line between good parenting and just being lazy.

I see now.

Oh dear, Dana! Did you see the story about the 22-year-old who blew through her grandmother’s bequest of $90k for her college education in three years, and then called into a radio station to ask what she should do, and proceeded to complain on air that it was her parent’s fault for “they never, like, sat down, and had a really SERIOUS discussion about money. How am I supposed to know?” And on and on and on…. And said her father was rude when “he, like, chuckled, when I told him I had no money for my next semester” and that it “is like, not true that he has no money ’cuz I KNOW he has a retirement fund.” I have a feeling she was working up to a crowd-funding idea coming from the radio hosts. They never got anywhere near it. And today’s strip is exactly how that starts. Except Phoebe’s parents will never let her go that far.

Summer reading, shmummer shmeading! It’s vacation time!

Dads are indeed geniuses.

Do schools actually assign summer reading? I attended three school districts in two different states in two different decades, and I was never assigned summer reading.
