This hits near home. I recall a few years back when a lifeguard was fired for rescuing somebody swimming from a beach not owned by his employer.

@Varnes Well, we do have this tiny problem with beaches closed due to algae blooms and raw sewage.

The swimmers would have to sign their Waiver of Liability holding the lifeguard and company blameless before they go in the water, too hard to write while treading water or sinking.

Pity the poor beach swimmer who might be in trouble in the surf. Or is this really a desert scene?

I’m trying to boycott FL,myself. But since I have a 98-year old aunt there, it’s difficult.

And this is relevant how? How a simple cartoon lampooning what most people see as inappropriate unfettered private ownership of what should belong to the public as a platform for engaging in a debate on Darwinism is beyond me. Nor can I find any reason to let people drowned to preserve the fittest??? What comic strip do you guys come from anyway?

andylyke: Take up gluttony. Fat is more buoyant than muscle and should about match the greater buoyancy of salt water.

Calvans Brother, Asian Carp may start a knew craze, swinging a baseball bat at them and knocking them out of the sky…..It looks like great fun….Bruno is right about the water clarity…They do clean things up….The biggest problem is at water intakes docks, but they really don’t damage the environment much….there will be consequences, no doubt…

There’s a rich guy near Half Moon Bay in California who bought a place and promptly locked off the entrance to the beach in defiance of longstanding coastal laws. He fought in court for years. He lost, as he should have, but he kept people away while he was fighting.

It depends on Where in Florida you swim.Volusia County (Daytona Beach area) still has County Employees as Lifeguards on the beaches. They haven’t sold out to the “Corporations are just Better” lobby.

The law’s the law: here in California there must be beach access, regardless of how pricey the waterfront homes are. there seems to be a never ending battle over that in the Malibu. Also, as for those overgrown adolescents (they call themselves the Bay Boys) in Palos Verdes’ Lunada Bay bullying non-local surfers to leave, they need to grow up and learn the law as well.

Unfortunately some countries’ fire departments work on the principle of waiting for the highest bidder.
