Perhaps the lefty batter was coming from the 3rd base dugout. The depth in P2, or lack thereof, makes it look like they are playing on a little league machine pitch field. Rubin and Whigham at least have us talking about the strip. Jack Berrill’s storylines may have been outdated, but that is what drew most of us to Gil Thorp.
The batter is left handed. His right hand is on the bottom of the bat. If he bats right handed holding the bat like that, he would probably hurt himself.
Jack Berrill’s plotlines were not outdated. He stretched the boundaries of daily comics by introducing current (at the time) issues that teens were facing and weaving them into interestiing and entertaining stories.

Why is a lefty batter standing on the right side of the plate? The artists can’t be this dumb, they must provoke us readers by doing it on purpose.

If he’s gonna tip his pitches like that, they might as well just set up a tee …

The catcher refers to him as “pitch”? He should know his name by now.

ummm, jterran, thats the umpire…the c-3-peio like helmet bottom right of P2 is likely the head of the catcher…

Neal Rubin was a big fan of this strip, and I for one am glad that he stepped in to keep it going.

Is that a shadow on the eyes of the batter? If it’s a shadow the shape looks very weird.

Hey! The ump stole Marty Moon’s watch! There can’t be two of them in 2010, can there?
