Calvin needs to be motivated to get out of bed.

Calvin must use the beautiful summerday, the more with Hobbes, certainly they will have fun!!

She should lock the door until dinnertime.

Used to wake up with my kids just to watch the cartoons before we played outside (mom was sleeping in).

In the summer, Calvin’s mom is amazed to see her son rise at sunrise.Looks like Calvin’s mom has her morning stimulant and Calvin has his.Calvin is clearly in a big hurry for his mom to be out of sight, so that Hobbes can come to life.

@LX013: At least you don’t have to go back to school when summer ends.

It’s awesome when you get to see Hobbes as a stuffed animal.

On this score, the problem lies with government schools, not Calvin.

You’re sure about that, are you Mom? (Remember what happened with Stupendous Man’s appearance at school…)

Not going to happen.

Everybody knows the school year is different!

Small town in the deep South in the 50s and early 60s…. kicked out after breakfast, expected back by dark, or soon after. No one worried about us, there was very little to worry about.

Hey summer time Calvin wants all he can play at for school break. Here in KS summer school ends next week. Our school classes have a/c.

Ha! Fat chance!

Ah, I long for the days of summer when I was a kid..as a grown-up, summer is the same as the rest of the year, only hotter and everything on TV is reruns.

We are only energized by that which makes us feel free.

Now days kids think going outside is punishment

No one worried about us, there was very little to worry about.-Summer in the arid Southwest, today. 122 degrees outside. AC indoors. You expect a kid to play outside in that heat?

Cannot imagine Calvin getting excited about going to a place where he is expected to sit quietly, pay attention to others without daydreaming, and remain essentially sedentary. It’s unnatural.

This strip is sadly dated-no kid wants to go out and play and mothers won’t let them. They can’t even walk to school but have to drive 3 blocks so they get there safely. So sad and I am glad I’m not a kid today.

Summers are short.Make the most of them.

And I thought he liked sitting at the TV all day.
