I think the Sheik’s point is that there hasn’t been an attack on Canadian territory since the War of 1812, which, believe it or not, actually happened in 1812, not that Canadian troops haven’t participated in warfare elsewhere.
SHEIK Some of Canada young men are risking their lives right next to our fine men.
To men and women who served , whenever or wherever, thank you. Any idiot tells you you weren’t in a “real” war or a “good” war, give em a real good punch for me.l”
My Dad joined the Army Air Corps – there was no separate Air Force in 1943 – and did indeed serve in France. Little operation known as “D-Day!” Thanks, Dad, for helping save us from “Old Adolf” – and have a great Memorial Day in Heaven with Uncle Jimmy!
Jimmy was the brother who served and didn’t come back.
ghostkeeper: Let’s be honest. Hitler’s declaration of war against the U.S. right after Pearl Harbor completely changed the face of the war for everyone. If he had not, then what’s now called World War II would have been two separate wars: the U.S. and China versus Japan in one, and the British Empire, the Soviet Union, and Europe versus Germany in the other.
Once the U.S. was brought into the war in Europe, it made sense to unify efforts on all fronts. The Empire and Canada would have entered the war against Japan for one reason or another. This isn’t a “Remember the Maine!” incident as much as a convenient excuse to do the right thing.

Those who wait tables in Paris, also serve in France - albeit with an attitude…

Kudos, Pab.

The best deal might be the one in the top right corner. Canada hasn’t seen any enemy action since the War of 1812,
Spoiler alertwhich occurred in the year 1812.

Canadian troops have been wherever the British were. I’m a Yank (and in TEXAS, at that), but I refuse to get snooty!

Ah, Joe. Uncle Albert on a British strip and I get all McCartney eyed.

Canadian troops are British subjects, so I would hope they’d follow through on it.

Hey, I made the French joke earlier this week! Well, actually it started centuries ago, but I want credit!

There was the “Victory Program”: FDR and Churchill had an agreement: Germany First. There is no way we would have limited the war to just Japan.
