When I saw this I couldn’t help but think of the Christmas tree from “A Charlie Brown Christmas,” when Charlie Brown puts an ornament on top of the tree and the weight of the single bulb bends the tree over.
More like they grow from the core. The newest layers push out from each branch tip and each ring thickens & widens over time. So wherever a branch emerges from the trunk, it will still be at the same height 5, 50, or 500 years later.
