School starts tomorrow here in northern Maine…..but school does close for two weeks in Sept. so children can help with the potato harvest. It’s a family thing….farm families need their children to help them.
@mfhorn, that’s when schools usually start in NJ (at least, they don’t start before September). Someone mentioned it had to do with the NJ shore economy, which sounds reasonable. Problems are, we never, ever get out before the middle of June, and that’s assuming there are no snow days to make up. Not unheard of to go through the last week in June, if we’ve had a lot of snow days. I wish our schools were fully air-conditioned, especially in June!
mfhorn 4When I was in school, air conditioners were just for the principal and office staff. Üntermenchen like teachers and pupils could die from the heat for all they cared.
It could be worse; instead of the Borg telling them that resistance is futile, it could be the Vogons shouting, “Resistance is useless!” Of course, resistance equals amps divided by volts.
Maybe the high school shouldn’t say that as kids might think about it realize that it isn’t futile, if they are over 16 or so they can drop out, sad to say. That is, for those who aren’t moving into training for a skilled trade, and don’t do the GED work. The 16 year olds who don’t realize how hard it will be to move up from the burger job that pays enough for them to rent a place with 5 other people and think that’s easier, and if they go back in a year and a half or start the GED work 3 years later will have forgotten the stuff that had only gotten a temporary berth in the brain, not a problem if you take the next math class the next semester… so they are behind where they were when they left school

I may not be a student, but I 100% agree with that statement Baldo made. The school board is going a bit overboard.

I’m actually quite pleased that a Star Trek meme has totally made it into the culture.

The electrician’s school had the same sign, except it was Resistance is Potential Over Current.

If the principal comes out dressed as Locutus from ‘I, Borg’ I’d start running.
