I live in NH and I agree about the foliage. When my husband proposed to me, he chose a weekend where the colors were at their peak & took me on a riverside picnic (Confession: the reason he chose that day to propose is because he had proposed once already, but I told him that I refused to make any major adult decisions until after I turned 18, and that weekend was 8 days after my 18th birthday). It was so beautiful and quiet, albeit cold. I prefer it to all of the public, embarrassing, pressuring proposals I see online.
Mad magazine that was similar tothis decades ago. Took place in Florida and they complained about the Yankee tourists but they said they love those Yankee dollars.
I’ve read about New Yorkers heading to Vermont or New Hampshire to view the autumn leaves, causing excessive and unnecessary traffic. Tourists ruin everything.

But nothing screams lack of taste like a ‘gender reveal’ party.

Sure, I can give you directions. Plug the address you want into the navigation app on your phone and then do what it says.

NY’ers are welcome to come up and spend their money. Then leave.

I live in central NY. No need to travel to see leaves. I would avoid NYC though.
