Look! There’s a HoHo tree right there! Pick one and taste it. And there’s a peppermint candy vine. Isn’t nature wonderful? And just for you, Mr. Penny, there are some interesting leaves; just pick them and rub them on your face, they’re very cooling. Yes, the three-lobed leaves. Put some in your pant to prevent heat rash. Good.
Burl is right again! Even when the bear went over the mountain there was a good reason. And Ranger Goldes knows, or should know, what bears do in the woods!
“Actually, yes…. you’ll find a gift shop, with cute souvenirs, T-shirts, a snack bar, and a restroom, just when we get to the end of the trail….”
(Don’t tell the Pennys, but it’s about 30 yards from where we’re standing now….just beyond those little trees… on the other side of the parking lot, facing the trail exit….
We’ll get back here in about 2 hours and 15 minutes.)
Ranger Rick’s next advise is, “Move very quietly, so you get to see the bears up real close before they hear you and run away. I’ll walk in the back so you all can get to see them first. Oh, and they really love it when play with their cubs.”
Goodness everyone, no self-respecting bear would get near the Pennys, the smell alone……I find it funny that both Joy and Vera are wearing “good clothes”, Polyester blouses and elastic waist pants, earrings and most likely black shoes with small heels, You know, a going on a car trip clothes. We once took my MIL and FIL up to the lake to see the lot we bought and to have a picnic, and she dressed exactly like that. Come to think of it, they were so much llke the Pennys it was scary. The only difference was the weight, they were too cheap to buy junk food. (unless it was day-old and could be frozen)
