Phoebe and Her Unicorn by Dana Simpson for September 13, 2015
Transcript:
Dad: TVs phones, music-playing devices... they used to be so DIFFERENT and COMPLICATED. Now it's just rectangles. Rectangles everywhere. Madness! Rectangles are the tribbles of the modern world. They just multiply until they've completely taken over. Phoebe: If my dad ever completely loses it, I'm not sure how I'm going to tell.

The trials and tribble-ations of living in the modern world.

Oh yes, modern tech is so simple that pressing “Play/Pause” confuses people when they are trying to watch a movie. The confusion happens when they accidentally “pause” the movie and can’t figure out how to get it going again! Lol!

As long as my coffee cup stays round, i don’t mind.

Complicated? Rotary dial phones were wonderful in their simplicity. Climbing out of your chair to change TV channels was a real deterrent to channel surfing and there were only four channels to choose from. I still enjoy playing records with a needle, a much richer experience than those digital files.

Don’t worry, Feebs. You’ll get there yourself someday.

Marigold has no idea what’s going on, she just keeps listening to her death metal playlist.

When I’m in the home office I keep trying to mute the TV with the phone while I’m trying to answer the remote. They’re just about identical. Rectangles, of course.

I’m with Dad on this one. It’s not the technology so much as how distracted we allow it to make us.

I share his frustration over the ubiquitousness of rectangles. Devices aren’t interesting to draw, anymore.

I wonder what kind of music Marigold listens to?
I can’t imagine that there are enough versions of “I’m so pretty” that she would need a MP3 player to hold them all.

I don’t understand the joke.
