In Tibet, it’s common for monasteries to give pilgrims room for the night. So common in fact that other travelers take advantage of the custom. To counter this, it became common to ask one of the Koans of any traveler to determine if they were real pilgrims or not. One trader tells of a time he went to a monastery and the monk answering the door asked him “What is the sound of one hand clapping?” He immediately took off his shoe and hit the monk on the nose, the monk let him in immediately. Later, when talking to the monk, he asked if the monk understood his answer. The monk replied “No, but the speed with which you answered told me it was real.” It seems even enlightenment can be faked. =)

Ann Romano (Bonnie Franklin) gave that same answer to her daughter on tv in One Day At A Time, back in the Seventies.

Why is cartoon violence against men funny but against women would be politically incorrect.
In Calvin and Hobbs. Calvin may hit Susie with a water balloon, but the never laid a finger on her. Yet, she decks him out routinely.
Or why is it that in the jerky commercial Sasquatch never beats up women in the group; it’s always the men.
