Once the stove is delivered, THEN call and schedule the hook up service for the next day. Just eat out or have food delivered for one day. PROBLEM SOLVED!

I still think he forgot to turn the gas back on after his repair job, & the original stove is actually OK.

All gas appliances are required, by code, to have an inline shutoff valve. Have a plumber come over any time to install one.

It is very easy to run gas line and install a new stove. If you are unclear of the codes for your area either goggle them or go to city hall. $150 per hour sheesh.

All good logical comments reflecting real world solutions. However this is the current GA and the only purpose of the gas line is as a set up for a corny joke.

I didn’t know people actually paid someone to hook up a gas stove. Do it yourself. Check your connections with soapy water and your good to go.

20 years ago when Walt and Phyllis were as old as Skeezix and Nina they weren’t going around shopping for stoves. They pretty much stayed at home quiet in their easy chairs.

The Gas Man brings up another running gag on The Jack Benny Show: Carmichael the Polar Bear. Making a long story shorter than it deserves to be, someone gave Jack a live polar bear and Jack had Rochester look after it. Doing anything with the bear terrified Rochester particularly when he became convinced that Carmichael ate the Gas Man. One of my favourite lines to come out of this was in a Christmas Shopping episode (1941 I think) where Rochester claims that Carmichael’s letter to Santa includes the following line: “And send a fat boy to read the meter.”
