Many successful entrepreneurs now say that experience in business even if you fail initially is worth far more than a business degree.

That’s the way Dads always react….Men who are dads act like dads even with their friends…..“It’s gonna rain, better roll up your windows.” “Did you check the oil?” “Did you bring the whiskey?”….Dude, I’m 62 year sold, of course I brought the whiskey

The wisdom of experience is about to come to Mary Lou and Gene. They are going to be fine, doing what they love. Gus, is going to mentor them. He has been there, done that, got the tee-shirt and is about to pass the torch of success to the next generation. Not only that, Gus gets meaning and direction for his life. It is a win-win.

Mary Lou and Gene are about to learn ALL the things they do not teach at Harvard Business School.

And college is no better. It’s a four-year party to celebrate the fact that you graduated from high-school.

Certainly a freak show today. And it’s turned off stupid, to boot.

Now, Jim….that wasn’t fair to judge Dani like that. She’s been a pretty good commenter for quite a while and appears sane to us. Having lived and dallied in 4 different college towns in my clamber to success, (here) she’s not far off in her opinion.

comicsssfanWhen I was in undergraduate school, your description of engineers only applied to frat boys (who were mostly drunk to a still-functional degree). Engineering students were identified by large slide rules worn like Roman swords. The only computer on campus (an Eniac) had its own air-conditioned building.

Sorry all you haters — I probably am making a lot more than some of you are — and it’s due to a college degree. Not all of us party, but not all of us wind up being nuns/priests either. I got the degree because I wanted it and needed it to do what I do. Don’t have the initiative and the motivation to finish a degree? That’s on YOU. If you don’t get specialized training (which I also have) — again — you are not meant to be making good money without the investment (financial, time and effort) for education and training. I’m tiring of the whining about wanting something for little or no effort.

I agree with Gus that it’s in how you “blurt out” something that can make a big difference. Once when I was in graduate school, my roommate locked herself out of the house where we were boarding. I woke around midnight with her yelling plaintively outside our window, “HILDEGARDE! [Not my real name] I’M LOCKED OUT! PLEASE OPEN THE DOOR!” I woke up in a panic, heart pounding. Later I advised her that if this happened again, I’d appreciate her calling me more gently.

So next time it happened, I woke up with her calling, “♫ Hildegarde! I’m locked out ♪ again! Please open the door! ♫” That time, all was well.
