The BMI is not a good indicator for many people. At least two inexpensive, and easy-to-use alternatives are far better: body fat (skin fold) calipers; and body-fat (inductive) weigh scales. You can get good calipers for under $5.00, and good body-fat scales can be gotten for about $50.00.
