they don’t care how much suffering they cause as long as they get political advantage; the unemployed don’t make campaign contributions anyway

They can block and filibuster. The GOP has shown itself to be a past master at that.

From the start the GOP made their position clear: If Obama succeeds then he will be re-elected, and they will be out of power, so OBAMA MUST NOT SUCCEED!

And they have done everything they can to keep their word. If it means that millions of Americans have to suffer, well that is the price that has to be paid.

    PARTY BEFORE COUNTRY!

Until there are more jobs seeking applicants than applicants seeking jobs, the demonization of the “lazy” unemployed is senseless.

ANandy’s ignorance has just gone up a notch.

Are you seriously unaware of the Republican strategy to block everything the Democrats want, so that in November they can claim the Democrats didn’t accomplish anything?

McCain stated the policy publicly and clearly after the remains of the health care bill passed.

“It was the majority party who failed to pass the bill. A minority can do nothing.” Hooboy! A majority DID vote to pass the bill. The minority party’s obstructionism is ACTIVELY doing nothing. Read the news, ANANandy, don’t just watch the Faux News spin channel.

There is a law called pay as you go. All the Republicans said was if you wish to spend billions passing the extension then you must cut other expenses to pay for it. The Democrats would rather increase the deficit, increase the debt and have our grandchildren pay just so they can get re-elected.

Billions to Banks who sit on it and pay dividends to the wealthy. Don’t give a dime to the poor or unemployed who would spend it and maybe get the economy moving.

At least they saved their life ring. I was unemployed off and on enough these last few years to know how devastating it can be to not have income of any kind coming in. Many of us do have things that we can live without, but don’t want to (including myself). Bare bones budgeting to include only necessities is the only way to get by until a job rolls along. If you can plant a victory garden, that will help for a while, but doesn’t help pay the utility bills.

Wasn’t PAGO blocked by the Republicans?

LIB - Just a gentle reminder: 70% of our current National Debt was put there by REPUBLICANS (Reagan/Bush/Bush), and, by the way, when he was President Reagan TRIPPLED the National Debt!

So now, all of sudden the GOP gets RELIGION and care about the National Debt? They didn’t care when they were in power and won’t care if they get back into power.

Tigger: But The Economy is doing Great, We’re out of the Recession! Lest that’s what Obama’s telling us.”

It’s no secret that jobs are lagging behind other numbers, but even in a “robust” economy we’re told that a certain amount of unemployment is “healthy”. So long as there are not enough living-wage jobs to go around, unemployment benefits must take up the slack. And what difference does it make whether it’s the same people who make up the unemployed for years and years, or if they’re the newly jobless? Shall new filers be told that they must wait their turn to look for new jobs, so that others have first shot?

This is just one of the reasons why the Reagan Conservatives’ motto “A rising tide lifts all boats” is and always has been not only an imperfect metaphor but in many ways hogwash. Small boats can founder in waters which big boats sail through without trouble. Oftentimes, the small boats are sunk by the VERY WAKE that the big boats leave behind them…

When George W became President our National debt was $5.6T. When he left office 8 years later, under a Democratic Congress from 2006, the National Debt was $10T an increase of $4.4T.

At the end of 2010 Obama after 2 years in office with an overwhelmingly Democratic congress our national debt will be $14.5T an increase in only 2 years of $4.5T. Est for 2011 (3 years in office Debt will be $15.7T.) Est for 2012 (4 years in office Debt will be $16.6T)

Bottom line in 2 years of being President, Obama will raise our National Debt more than Bush (under Democratic congress part-time) did in 8 years.

Bush did a terrible horrendous economic job as President and Obama is unbelievably far far worse.

When the anchors of guaranteed increasing profits for the rich holds the boat down, the rising tide only swamps the boat.

LIB - If you let someone use your house and they not only trash it, but use your credit card to run up monster bills, and you bring in someone to repair the damage, and it costs a lot of money:

Shouldn’t you be mad at the people who did the damage and not the one who is trying to repair the damage?

2.And how is that person suppose to repair the damage without spending money?
