It’s against the law to text while driving. There was recently a terrible accident in Los Angeles caused by a passenger train engineer texting and running though a red light The passenger train hit a freight train head on at high speed.
I used to fish through the cooler for the coldest beer while driving. Don’t believe that’s against the law. Wouldn’t want to try to explain the crash to St Pete though.
Don’t have my phone on while I’m at a meeting. I guess that more important than worrying about that crippled little old lady pushing a baby carriage who steps out while I push “Send.”
The sin is endangering everyone around you by driving while distracted. There are three components to safety on the road:
1) the roads are built to safety standards and clearly identified with directions, applicable laws and regulations.
2) the cars are built to govt (and industry) safety standards
3) the public is expected to operate the cars within traffic laws and in a safe manner at all times
The only reason it’s safe to drive is that we all abide by the same set of rules and therefore our actions behind the wheel are predictable.
I’ve personally seen what happens when a driver decides to disregard the rules - this one went the wrong way on the freeway, killing himself and the occupants of the other vehicle.
Lewreader: Fishing around in a cooler may not be illegal, but what did you do with the beer after you found it? (new subject) If it’s really Heaven there won’t be any cell phones, crackberrys (ies), iPhones, texting or people sticking a cameraphone flash in your face.
My girlfriend(? I’m not really sure about where we stand) seldom answers a call, but will respond to a text. One day we were having a long, confusing text exchange when I sent, “Can I call you”? She replied, “Can’t talk. I’m driving.”
We have a no-texting law here, also no cell phone without a hands-free device. Near as I can tell, there is no relation between those laws and the communication activity of our drivers.
Drinking while driving, texting while driving. Both dangerous
Now about that crippled old lady pushing the baby carriage across the street. Does she care which kills her? Someone didn’t care about her. Would you sleep that night?

Well, on the bright side, he doesn’t have a monthly bill for his cell phone anymore!
Technically he killed his passenger by texting while driving. Wouldn’t that be a sin? I probably shouldn’t have left that as a question. :^)

It’s only a sin if Joe says so.

Cars should have autopilots to countered the idiots who pilot them.

You know……there are reasons for laws……….
Sure wish Montana had a “no text while driving” law. We’ve had too many deaths in the last 2 years from that!

There was just a kid 17 killed this past weekend because of him texting while he was driving…very sad.

I’m all in favor of cleaning up our gene pool, but this kind of natural selection has an unacceptable level of collateral damage.

Texting while driving, drinking while driving, changing radio stations….Nothing about the resulting collisions is accidental.

Ah, JAD, but remember, in the Koran it expressly states “The only true faith in God’s sight is Islam”,
and further:
“Those who say: ‘The Lord of Mercy has begotten a son,’ preach a monstrous falsehood”.
