Kid 1: Ha, ha! Look at that kid with no tan! Boy, is he out of it! Kid 2: Ha, ha! Zonker: Don't laugh, Tommy. The joke could be on you! Kid 1: Holy cow! It's two-time grand national tanning champ Zonker Harris! Zonker: That's right, Tommy, and I'm here to tell you only losers lie in the sun! Kid 1: But... but... I thought tanning was cool, Mr. Harris! Zonker: So did I, youngster. But then I wised up. See this "healthy glow." Take a closer look! Kid 1: Gasp! Gross! Zonker: Get smart. Cover up. Aloha.

Too bad no one ever made commercials like this, back in the day…

Aloha? He’s from California, not Hawaii.

What ‘healthy glow?’ He’s pale as a frozen fish. Hello, colorist?? Maybe read the strip?

Maybe the commercial is supposed to take place on the beach in Hawaii. Lots of tanning tourists there to teach the effects of overdoing it. Aloha.

Yikes. Who knew Zonker had wrinkles? He always seemed to have access to the fountain of youth.

Gary, seriously, you should be looking for a colorist who’s not color-blind. The one you’re using now doesn’t seem to know the difference between normal skin tone and TANNED!Please don’t stop caring. Your strip brings smiles to millions of people every day. You may just be tired of doing it, but please keep chugging along. For our sakes.

My mother had skin cancers taken off her face in the early 60s. My dad refused to buy tanning oil or sun lotion and told us kids to stay inside. We didn’t listen and now are getting precancers frozen off of our skin.Wear sunblock and make it available for your kids. My cheap father could have done better. Kids are always going to go outside, not only to do the gardening.

In my 20’s back in the 1970’s I used to go to Illinois beach state park which was next door to the Zion nuclear power plant. I probably got zapped 2 ways. Anyway, I read about skin cancer and decided I didn’t need a tan anymore.

I always thought George Hamilton was the only multiple Grand National Tanning Champion – belated congratulations, Zonker!

Avoiding sun causes more cancer from vitamin D3 deficiency. Skin cancers are the lesser evil, and with enough healthy fats in your diet like the animal fats they told you to avoid you’re less likely to get sunburned. Basically, eat bacon and get outside but don’t stay out long enough to burn.

No fruits contain significant amount of any of the Vitamin D s.Mushrooms that have been exposed to sunlight or UV light can have acceptable amounts of D2.Alfalfa shoots have a good amount of D and a small amount of D3, but you would need to eat a kg every day to get enough D3 without sunlight exposure.Fish oil, meat, eggs and livers are good sources. Most westerners get the majority of Vitamin D from foods that have been fortified with man made Vitamin D.

Now they are finding that sun blocks actually can cause cancer. Everything in moderation.

I can see sun damage on just about every adult older than 28 on my HD TV. They don’t put body makeup on anyone, apparently, so you can see the sun damage done to the necks and upper chests of almost every woman on television. You’d think the industry would have noticed that by now.
