Must have been a suicidal rat. Half way still inside the hole, the cat not even in the frame, and it couldn’t get away? Has to be that it wanted to commit suicide.
We used to leave the door from the back porch to the outside open so our cat could come and go as he pleased. During the day Mom would leave the kitchen door to the porch open, too, and one day our cat brought Mom a mouse as she stood at the sink doing dishes. Mom let out a scream and Tuffy grabbed up his mouse and hiked it out the door! That was so funny. It’s been 60 years and it’s still funny. :)
It’s OK..no heartburn here..We kids did the same thing back in the early 1960’s in Arizona..Fed some cats, fed some roadrunners and other birds that otherwise wouldn’t become hungry..We lived in a poor neighborhood..
Both daddy and Grandpa came form Oklahoma to Arizona during the dust bowl..They knew how to make a living…any way they could..Agreed..I would submit as our family went by and working up to the 1970’s..Most kids today would have no concept…wait for it…“The Greatest Generation”
Our German Shepherd used to bring snakes from the swamp behind our house to present them to us by laying them on the front porch. He got to where he didn’t bother to kill them.. Live moccasins, rattlesnakes, whatnot yielded interesting mornings.
Rodents are okay to knock off. Birds, depends. Stick to invasive species and kill to your heart’s content. European Starlings and House Sparrows (aka English Sparrows). House Finch (only in central and eastern North America, and pidgeons are the worst.

Well, you have the right idea anyway, Henry. Besides, it’s the thought that counts!

Hey! Be more thankful. Calamari is expensive!
Although it would have been better if Henry had immobilized it first.thirdguy over 9 years ago
If the cat is going to bring a rat, could it at least be the rat with the pizza?

Twelve rats in the barrel? The neighbor’s cats must have been a sorry lot!

Our cat brought us (usually) live field mice, and once a brush bunny carcas with a missing leg. Just what we needed on our redwood floor.
