Michael is spot on…… Check for the maps and triple check for the maps before you leave… we also learned that the hard way. Not in such a remote area though (whew)
HAHAHAHA I said that once, and got a month of grounding for being ‘smart aleck’ … well, the month of grounding came when I said “I’m ALLAN, not Aleck! Geeze, learn who your kid is!”
I’m worried about Funky Winkerbean. Anyone else following his strip elsewhere? Thought it might be artist’s way of re-publishing the strip like Lynn has done with this one=starting from scratch.
ses1006: A GPS is great for going from point A to point B. Even better if you make a wrong turn and need to get back on track. But they are worthless for the big overview. If you’re planning a trip of more than a few miles you’ll probably want to see the whole travel area, not just a few blocks/miles around “You are here” on a 4 inch screen. Online maps will do this, but again screen size limits what you can see while on the road.
Mythreesons: I’m lucky enough to still have “Funky Winkerbean” published in our local newspaper which I try to follow every day (confusing though it’s been ever since Lisa died and the comic strip jumped ahead in time about 15 years!).
At first, I was confused too. Funky was in a car accident but appeared fine … until he got home and everything was like an episode out of the “Twilight Zone.”
Obviously, his car accident was much more serious than it first appeared. I’d say that he’s unconscious, perhaps even in a coma, and he’s gone back to a simpler time in his mind due to his head injury. But he isn’t dead (as evidenced by the e.m.t. saying “Stay with us, pal” as they’re loading him into an ambulance). Since I haven’t heard anything regarding the cartoonist retiring and the comic possibly coming to an end, I’m pretty sure that Funky will recover from his accident and be just fine!
Funky is going through very personally challenging times on multiple levels. This will show him what is important in life in the present, having “gone back” to see the way it was in the good ol’ high school days.
Thanks, Funky fans. I almost wish the whole strip would start from the beginning as our lousy newspaper only prints the Sunday and not the daily. I wrote to editor, begging for dailies, but no go, about 15 years ago!

And dad is thinking of the name of that creek right about now.
By the way, on the spammers (since people want to discuss them too): Doesn’t something seem wrong with an “Ed Hardy” bikini? Just asking.

Were the directions right next to the car keys?
@Mythreesons - I don’t follow Funky Winkerbean, but you could try

It looks current (not archives). Good luck!

The only place that I know to get a folding map is at AAA and the book stores. With GPS, how much longer will they last?

ses1006 - as long as the Greatest Generation does. My father won’t have any truck with GPSes.

First John misplaced the car keys … now, after all this time, he admits he forgot the map.
I said it a few days ago and I’ll say it again: What a Doofus!!!!!

Mythreesons Put Funky Winkerbean in the google box (or any other search engine) and look for SF gate, that’s where I get my funky fix.
