Marcia: I don't know why it's so hard to find someone, Mike, but it is. All the good men in this city are either married or gay. Mike: No, Marcia, that's a bit of a cliche, don't you think? Marcia: It's also a fact. See the hunk in the jobbing shorts over there? Mike: Where? Marcia: Hey, jogging shorts! Yeah, you! What's the story, married or gay? Man: Both. Marcia: See? It's just getting worse.

The secret to successful singlehood, Marcia, is not lamenting. .Don’t do it because the dating scene is seemingly stupid, but because you’ve decided to stop needing to be part of a couple for societal expectations.

Maybe she should lower her expectations. She really doesn’t want to marry a divorced man with children, that is the bill that keeps on taking. She obviously makes some kind of money, what is wrong with setting her cap for a building super – his rent is taken care of and he is too busy to really get in trouble – that is, if she can look the other way when he “helps out” lonely wives from the building.

She’s trying too hard, that’s the fast track to fail. Unexpected is best.

I’ve known several sad cases where this was true…it did not work out well.
