This actually happened to me. When signing on one day, I was told I had to change my password. I tried one and it was rejected with an explanation of the rules, which included âNo recently-used passwordsâ. The one I had tried, I had never used before and it passed all the other requirements, so I tried it again. Nope. I came up with another one that I checked several times to be sure it complied. Rejected. A third. Denied. In desperation, I tried the password I had been using before the password-changing messages from Hell began. Passed.

Try Password1. It works for LOTS of people. Or, try 12345. Never use %^&*stUpiDisahorse*n&m.

I use obscure terms/words, mixing the capitalization and a few numbers/symbols. Obscure songs really work well.

@mfhorn4: One website demanded that my password be at least 16 characters long â no lie. I chose an unprintable phrase and it has served me well.

My IT son suggests using a pattern rather than a password. Itâs easier to remember and harder to crack. Something like rtyhnbvfg.
