Please don’t take this as critical, but the artwork today is so different it looks like a different strip. Personally, I do not like this artwork as much. I know Lila is not all about the art of course, but sometimes the art is much less enjoyable than others. Today Lila and Boyd look like they are distantly related to the Simpsons, though not really in a good way.
Sorry to post something like this, cause the strip itself today is really sweet. Figured you would rather know than not.
paul and imjusto, JWF covered the artwork issue in yesterday’s comments. When the characters are drawn in full profile they look different than when in the usual 3/4 view.
Thanks, corzak, for explaining the art. And thanks, Paul, for the comment. I’m always open to feedback, good and bad! The characters were first drawn in 3/4 profile and we decided to keep them that way as a symbolic gesture that we we can’t always see ourselves fully and that others don’t always see us for who we really are. We do waver with profiles every once in a while when the copy calls for it. The profile images may look odd or different because they are rarely featured.
I hate it when kids can handle the tech way better than I can. Which means I hate it a LOT. Take the IPhone 4 to her. Maybe she can fix the *&#@ thing.
OK, thanks for the explanation inre the art work. It has been “different” for a little while in my opinion. I thought maybe someone else was doing the artwork. Like Adam @ Home changed from a person to photoshop (or something, not that but something) and they looked so different that I actually quit viewing the cartoon. Guess I wasn’t commited to the cartoon, but only to the art work.
I really enjoy The Meaning of Lila and love little Annie. Like Paul, though, I do not care for today’s artwork very much. And, like Paul, I agree that today’s “message” is very sweet.
JWF, the art and story lines are fine. I can understand if things may be a little off once in a while - I know my work is occasionally. Sometimes folks are just to picky for their own good, let alone someone else’s good.
I hope Annie will be ok, and I’m sure this is just a “reminder” that she IS a very sick little child. This story line, especially today’s strip (yesterday’s too perhaps) are REALLY touching. I enjoy seeing this side of both Lila and Boyd. Good job JWF.
I think the art is fine, too. A bit different, but not bothersome at all.
Re: Adam@Home - about a year or so ago, Bassett stopped drawing the strip in order to concentrate his energy on Red and Rover. The strip is currently drawn by Rob Harrell, the same guy who did Big Top. Don’t know if he writes it as well, but I wouldn’t be surprised. In any event, it took me a couple of months to adjust to the change, but now, I like it just fine.
I don’t begrudge anybody using technology to make their jobs easier. I’ve always thought that Lila’s strength was in its writing and the art was good and fitting but not the reason to keep coming back.
Oh, and I think the new Adam is an upgrade overall. The art’s a little worse, but the writing is better. And I think Red & Rover has gotten better too.

It’s okay. I understand Annie is working on her job profile at this time anyway. :-)

Hi Farren, I’ll start viewing Adam@Home again as I had always like it before. Thanks for the update.
