Mona is trying hard to convince herself. But Raoul isn’t worth the effort!

At first a tender love song goes through my mind

Young love, First love, filled with deep emotion

Then reality hits me as Mona thinks

WHAT THE HELL AM I DOING?

The eyes in the second panel are wide with surprise and/or apprehension. The leg lift in the third panel provides the kicker (so to speak).

This whole flashback sequence has been about Mona’s ambivalence (not indifference; she feels pulled strongly in opposite directions). Despite how jerky Raoul has been all evening, Mona REALLY wants that kiss…

    The “lift” is in French, too? :D ( *<< Lift! >> * )

Kisses seem to make any day better.

Not so much ManTran as Gainsbourgh and Birkin…

“Je t’aime… je vais et je,,, viens;/ entre tes…rheins….

(Hmm, Serge Gainsborough. Epitome of the dried-up, seedy, soap-shy, looking, Gauloise hanigng out of the corner of the mouth, yet inexplicably attractive to women, French bloke.

He could voice M. Smokey in any sound adaptation of this cartoon…)

Most women lift their foot like that just before kicking a guy in the b@lls…
