Mrs. Olsen: Any questions? Caulfield: If a parakeet is a tiny parrot, shouldn't a paradigm be worth about 3 cents? She said "I know one that is." Frazz: I see your questions as more template than paradigm, but that was pretty good.
I donât really understand Frazzâs final remark; itâs far too abstract and abstruse a classification. Caulfieldâs question is more a type of a Vaudeville comicâs gag. Heâs bright but is still (as I was) a disrupter. Put him in an advanced class!
Maybe Caulfield is thinking of this coin, issued by the US mint 1863-1882. Slightly smaller than a dime. Some called it a âtrimâ, others called it a ânickelâ, since it was made of that medal and the 5 cent coin of the time was made of silver (and called a half-dime). The 5 cent nickel piece wouldnât be issued until 1867.
Parakeet/paradigm works because it is funny. One can always tear apart a joke to sufficiently to take the humor out of it. Doesnât make it a bad joke, or forced.

I agree with Bilan⊠a paradigm is worth 20 cents.
If a tiny parrot is called a parakeet a tiny dime should be a dimekeet.

Continuing yesterdayâs discussion. Thank you all for your explanation. It took me some time but I finally got the joke.

When I was young, I used to build paradigm cars.

Most people canât, but the person who shall remain nameless obviously has proven that they are a unique case.

âParadigm: a typical example or pattern of something; a modelâ
âTypicalâ certainly doesnât apply to Caulfield. (Which is probably a consolation of sorts to Mrs. Olsen.)
