I live in the Los Angeles area and I’ll believe it when I can buy something in a mom-n-pop store without speaking Spanish.

The toon has it right. BTW, we got neighbors moving in in Arizona and the wife spoke zero English, only Italian, and she was third generation: born in BOSTON.

For over 200 years before California joined the union, you would have spoken Spanish in Pueblo de Los Angeles. The attack on Spanish speakers in the American southwest is absurd. (Though I do agree that all licensing and legal documents in the U.S. should today be with the culture, and in English.)

The problem is if you really think about it. Wasn’t California,, Arizona, Nevada, Mexico, Texas already settled by Mexican and Indians until the “White Men” came and wiped them out. That’s what makes me love it when people say this is our country. They should add after that “That we stole fair and square by killing the indigenous people” There was actually one poster on here that challenged my statement by saying how do you think they got there?

Baslim: going from 1850 when California joined the union, not so much foundng of the pueblo for that 200+ years. I just find it interesting that folks able to trace their ancestry in the geographic area to that time, are still considered “foreigners” by many right-wing xenophobes, who trace their own family history in the area to “Okies” who showed up during the depression.
