Zonker: Him, mom, it's me. Dean Honey just told me you've been trying to reach me. Is everything okay at home? Mrs. Harris: Everything's fine, dear. I called about the lottery ticket Aunt Sophie sent you for your birthday. Zonker: Oh, yeah? Did I win something? Mrs. Harris: You won $23 million, dear. Zonker: Get this, Honey. I won $23 million. Honey: How nice, sir. Just in time for holiday shopping? Zonker: 23 what? Honey: You could also pay your bar bill.

Maybe a nice piece of artwork. Something by Monet would look good.

I love the idea of carrying a bar tab at a medical school. Plus the fact that Zonker is genuinely EXCITED about something. That fact that it’s money that has so stirred him is an unexpected bonus.

When Duke finds out, he’s in Serious Trouble..Not to mention all the “Relatives” he never even Heard of before..And the Preachers who got a Message Straight from God demanding he hand over Gods Share. To the Preacher, of course.…

I buy lottery tickets to contribute to the state, not just to win. I’m satisfied to lose money if it goes to services that wouldn’t get done because people are too stingy with their taxes. I know that one person does win the big money and several others win the smaller amounts, whatever the odds. I know that odds are 100 percent that at least one person wins. But that’s not the point. The point is to fund public services, not myself. And it’s my money to lose or win as I like, not anyone else’s to tell me what to do with it.

Zonker is fortunate that Mom doesn’t take after her brother, Duke. Otherwise, she would have cashed in the ticket herself.
