It must be mandatory to send and receive texts with bad grammar and spelling. Along with a complete ignorance of pronouns and the English verb.I get texts from several people including a retired school principal and a semi-literate neighbor and sometimes they are indistinguishable. The neighbor only has a high school education. But the neighbor apologizes for his bad spelling and writing.I also get texts from a teenage girl who has the mental capacity of about a 10 year old. Her spelling is perfect. She knows how to use an on-line dictionary and write a simple declarative sentence.
I kept, for many years, a framed business letter to me, from a Vice-President at Chase Manhattan Bank. On the brief, one page missive, I’d underlined and highlighted numerous spelling, grammatical and punctuation errors. When I’d first received the letter ( pre-email days ), I thought at first it was a joke, since I knew this individual prided himself on his business correspondence.I called him to laugh about the letter, only to discover it hadn’t been a joke. He didn’t realize the content .His private secretary of 25 years had recently left, and hadn’t trained a replacement . He was so used to rapidly dictating and signing letters ( without proof reading them ) , it never occurred to him that not every secretary at Chase wasn’t as skilled as the lady who retired. He tried for years to retrieve the original letter from me. I very kindly, sent him a copy but retained the original.

So if you start getting texts saying to ‘come dig me out’ you’ll know dad didn’t quite go to the light after all.
