Burl is a jerk and shouldn’t be allowed around children.

Thus patricide.

Timmy’s decided not to wait any longer. He’s starting tomorrow to visit local nursing homes so he’s certain to find the one with the meanest, worst paid, non-English-speaking staff, the most powerful urine odor, the television permanently set to C-SPAN, and a vegetarian cook with Parkinson’s. It would be a shame for him to put Burl into any place with a lesser experience.

Timmy is Dale and Marlene Shemp’s grandson.

His parents are their son and his wife, but we’ve only seen _them_ in a family photo, that I can recall.

Luckily for him, he’s no relation to Burl or Joy Penny.

I’m early strips, and in photos, he has a younger brother, Tad or Tod, who seems to have disappeared without mention.

Burl and Joy have only one child, their daughter Patty, a young adult, sometimes portrayed as a college student.

She doesn’t live with them… and probably should move farther away.

But she visits now and then, and sometimes brings her boyfriend, John, who is sometimes seen as a med student, and sometimes as a doctor.  

Joy Penny was born Joy Darwin.

Her sister is Verla Darwin, often called Verl, and we often see their mother, Ma.

Oh… And we can’t leave out Verl’s super hairy boyfriend, uncommitted and of dubious sexuality … Jerry Zwank.

We sometimes also see his look-alike mother, Mrs Zwank.

I look at it this way Timmy is learning to be kind to dumb animals
