When I worked for USPS and if you called in sick the Postmaster would call you back and SUGGEST you come in and case your mail then go home. If you case your mail you might as well do the route! I learned not to answer the phone. (in my USPS office)
When we merged with the local transit system, I inherited one office worker who was a member of the transit drivers union. So I had to read another labor contract that was way different than what my other union members, who were Teamsters, had. One huge difference was that as a supervisor, I could show up at the employee’s home if they had called in sick to “check on them”. I never felt a need to do this but there was one employee I had where this would have been a nice feature.

if their name is John, I call them John… otherwise I call them by their name…..
