Nobody likes a snitch._ Taking into account Susie’s expression in panel 3, I will let other determine if Susie actually expected Calvin to do what he did.

A stinkhead, a squealer…..

Probably gave Miss Wormwood a chuckle, although she had to suppress it.

Being a squealer can get you kicked out of G.R.O.S.S.

Susie has Calvin on the ropes once again. He is so gullible.

Calvin is one step behind, sometimes more.

Probably scared the bejesus out of her with that squealer scream! Calvin, a day late and a dollar short. Time to pick some boogers!

Susie must be bored, having fun with Calvin, but now, they’re both off to the principal’s office.

“Calvin, don’t stand on your desk.”

And I hope you know a good employment service, Calvin.

This strip doesn’t have a lot of characters and as pointed out above, Susie is the only character with both a first and last name. You don’t even see other characters even in the background. So the mention of yet another character, Jessica, I noteworthy.

At school there is Miss Wormwood, the principal, Moe and for now, Jessica (spoken about but not seen)

At home there’s Mom, Dad, Roslyn.

At large are Calvin, Hobbs and Susie.

It’s a small universe. Did I miss anybody?

Someday Calvin will be president and Susie Derkins will be an intern…

It must be early in the school year. Otherwise Ms. Wormwood would know better than to put Calvin and Susie together.

@dflakOthers: Calvin’s doctor, Calvin’s coach, and at least once Susie’s mother. (Calvin went to Susie’s house to hit her with a snowball, but her mother answered the door. She was off-panel, of course.)

After 10 years, these strips come back completely fresh. Mr Watterson is very shrewd.

Calvin lives by the motto “If at first you don’t succeed, try, try again.” He is doomed to a lifetime of trying again, at least when it comes to outsmarting Susie. You have to give the boy credit for tenacity, if nothing else.
