Frazz by Jef Mallett for December 29, 2015
Transcript:
Caulfield: These guys tossed their Christmas tree but they've still got a wreath up. I'd say we have us a mystery. Frazz: I'd say their wealth probably doesn't smell like the dog piddled on it. Caulfield: Detective work and pet ownership can be so unglamorous.

I don’t always do a tree, but when I do put one up and hang all the old ornaments on it, so ripe with memories, It stays up well past New Year’s…A week or so…Christmas isn’t over until I say it is….

Is it raining on the other side of the street? Are they walking on water, or pavement? The road looks like a river……Maybe I’ve just seen too many floods on TV….

VarnesDon’t act like rain can’t be on only one side of the street. I have observed the phenomenon many times.

It looks like the blue areas are sidewalks, driveways, and road and the yellow areas are the lawn and grass median betweent the sidewalk and the street. Usually this time of year the blue could represent an icy street and sidewalk, but in this case I think the colorist just didn’t bother to differentiate.

Of course, the family might have wanted more space in their living room, and put the tree out early, where a passing dog could have recycled it as a toilet.

I’m not sure if this has been covered, don’t have time to read from my esteemed fellow posters, it would seem to me a better word could be used by Caulfield than “unglamorous”. Words such as “unsophisticated” or “repulsive” come to mind.
I do agree with the sentiment of the strip, it’s just that as an artist Jef is a wordsmith as well. My apologies for the criticism Mr. and Mrs. Jef
