Red: When I have kids, I'm not going to assign them a bedtime.
Rover: No bedtime?!
Red: No bedtime. After staying up each night later and later, they will eventually start to head to bed earlier and earlier out of sheer exhaustion.
Nic used to fight over a 9 o’clock bed time. Finally, “Ok, then. Go to bed when you want. I’m not writing a note if you’re late to school.” From then on, Nic would go to bed by herself without prompting right at 8.
Red has a point. When we take the cub-scouts camping, there is no hope of getting them to settle down to sleep on Friday night, but most of them want to go to bed right after dinner on Saturday.

Very clever, Red. You are wise beyond your years…Now…stay cozy, go to sleep & may you and Rover have sweet sweet dreams.

Another one of those ideas that sound good but don’t always translate to real life well.
