Did any cartoonist besides Bushmiller use the “starburst” balloon to signify having an idea? The more common notation is the light bulb. But this is the second time recently I’ve spotted this in Nancy, the other being over in the “Random Acts” feature.
In between Bushmiller and Watterson was Schulz snowmen gags, first with Charlie Brown and, in the sixties, with Linus Van Pelt. The trope might even go back to Percy Crosby’s Skippy or before.

I’m glad you are keeping busy Sluggo. Spring is 45 days away.

So, what’s the name of Three Rocks’ minor-league team? The Davids? (Nah – David grabbed five and only needed one.) The Rollers? (think about it…)

Sluggo would not make a good manager. He’s putting a right-handed pitcher in against a left-handed batter.
