From an energetic hooray to a disappointed, sarcastic-sounding hooray.

Michael was originally happy that Connie was coming because it meant his friend was returning. When he found out it also meant he had to clean his room, he changed his mind…

Nothing makes us happier than some work piled on us.

Is she coming alone? I know the basic story line to come, but I don’t remember the details….

I’m surprised Michael took it as well as he did! Most kids his age would have a fit given that much work to do.

Children and adults are not equals, and as such it was rude for Michael to be using a first name on an adult. When I was stationed in England, kids who did that would get smacked. Michael seems to have gotten off lightly, only to be made to clean his pigsty of a room.

Seems Michael should be more happy about his friend Lawrence coming, than Connie.
