Nancy, didn’t you ever wonder why your folks never gave the kids any Christmas presents?

who wouldn’t want to move in order to be near grandparents/-children?

Sounds about right, although my stepdaughter and her kids didn’t move to our town to be near us, but rather to be near our money.

Hmmmm, is Nancy the type who thinks she can force her folks and her significant other’s folks to jump when she says so just so she doesn’t have to deal with the kids?

Loving having our grandkids near us. I have babysat at least 2 days/week for the last 7 years (blessed to work at home). Will miss it starting next year as youngest granddaughter will be in kindergarten. My other daughter is 6 hours away with our 3 grandsons – would love it if they moved closer.

Most grandparents love having the grandchildren around because it is the connection to the next generation and they get to spoil the grandchildren which drives there parents crazy!………Some call it payback !…….so kids be good to your parents !

You know what they say. Every family story is a tragedy. Think King Lear.

There was a TV commercial several years ago that had a grandmother gushing over the wonderful time she spent with her grandchildren. The punchline was the woman smiling broadly and saying “Then they go home.” THAT’s how most grandparents feel. That’s how we felt before ours grew to college age.

If we all had known what scary stuff lurked in the family gene pool, there would be no population problem today… just sayin’.

More often the grandparents move to be closer to the grandkids—after all, the grandparents are the ones who are more mobile: no school-age kids complaining about leaving all their friends behind, they’re retired so no worries about job portability, just sell the house and go!
